As long as the oil is cold, it flows back into the engine unfiltered via an internal bypass, as this path offers the least resistance. From about 75 °C this bypass begins to close, and at 82 °C it is completely shut. From this point on, the oil is routed entirely through the oil cooler.\n\nThe housing is precisely machined from a solid aluminum block and then black anodized to protect it from external influences. Engraved markings for flow direction and ports make installation easier.\n\nThe adapter has a total of four freely usable threads for oil lines, of which one inlet and one outlet must be used. In addition, there are two further ports: a larger one (M14x1.5), for example for an oil temperature sensor, and a smaller one (M10x1) for a thermal switch, e.g. to control a fan.
